I just opened up my new Weatherby Vanguard 556. I havv one in 308 I got in 1988 and LOVE it. I also have a Mark V Fibermark in 270 WTHBY. Great shooter. The bolt WILL NOT close on this new 556. Looks like they did not finish milling the rails. Gets very narrow near the throat and "the bolt stops here". Frustrating. Just glad I don't have a hunt lined up soon.

Does the bolt body hang up or part of the shroud/firing pin/cocking piece? There's no such thing as 'didn't finish milling'. It's been test fired. What changed?

First thing to check is the cocking piece to be sure its still in the cocked position. the tip of the cocking piece should be resting ABOVE the cocking notch, not in it. If its uncocked, grab the entire rear end and twist it to recock. The bolt will slip in al the way, now.

Well that was easy. Arrived disassembled with the bolt wrapped in plastic. Whole firing pin assembly came out as I cocked it and had to reattach...works now. Thanks for the help.
