Recent purchase. Like new. Guessing slide on fore stock should release barrels for removal. However, when slide is withdrawn to stop, barrels do not release. Anyone have any advice?

First black powder rifle. Guessing the breech is closed, and that it has to be cleaned from the muzzle. I'll be using Gotex(?). I'm wondering what the proper procedure, and "tools" for cleaning a blind barrel are? How do you avoid a build up in the blind end?

This may sound kinda goofy but did you remove the ramrod?

Cleaning up after shooting black powder requires a universal solvent.

Soap and water, hot is best and the fouling will come out with out any problem. Many guy's use Dawn dish soap as it works very well. When the barrels are clean flush out with very hot water and run dry patches through the bores. Oil the bores with any good gun oil as a rust preventer, just make sure you swab the bores dry before shooting again.

Most if not all black powder bore lubes are animal/vegi based and are not good for rust prevention.
