I just got my old Belgian double back from my smith that did some lockup and bore work on the gun and test fired it with what he believed to be hot handloads he bought at a gun show (real smart right?). All of the work he did looks great and he did a fine job but now I can hear debris rattling down the barrel when I flip the gun up and down. What is this? Will it get worse? Do I need to have the barrels re-soldered?

Are you sure it isn't something inside the forestock? Does removing that affect the rattle? You might be able to diagnose it with a stethoscope, but also, ask the gunsmith where he thinks it is?

I checked the barrels and its definitely them. It sounds like little pieces of rust or something bouncing down a cavity in-between the barrels. Does that mean that they weren't soldered right or moisture is getting in there somehow?

Don't know the man but that right there is a place to pause for thought. Using gun show handloads to test? Maybe he'd find out if the gun went bang but little else of value.
This next didn't happen but....what if he'd blown your gun apart? I wonder how that would have turned out (but it didn't, so...)?

I would think a good smith would use loads he made so he knows exactly how they are made and the pressures. I would certainly have it checked out by another knowledgable smith. It may be nothing, but better safe than sorry. Remember, it's your face next to those barrels when you pull the trigger.

if you see a gap in the solder, fill a hypodermic syringe with grease and inject the grease into the void. the debris will then get balled up in the goop. i would not think the barrels would suddenly seperate after this many years.
