Actually it may be the Associated Press's definition and/or the BATF definition. answer anthing over ".22 caliber" with a detachable magazine. I would think they are referring to .22 LR as otherwise .223 would not be covered. Anyway here is link to 12-20-10 AP article. The issue of U.S. guns in Mexico is a Red Herring as 90% of the "illegal firearms" do not come from thr U.S. but any excuse is good enough for the BATF. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20101220/ap_on_re_us/us_gun_sales_reporting_2

Yes. I think it turned out that 90% of those guns they asked the BATF to trace were from here, but they didn't ask the BATF to trace most of them. Just the ones they thought came from here in the first place. So, it's a kind of self-fulfilling prophecy. They also aren't telling that all the automatic weapons from this country came through corrupt Mexican army and police who'd got them legally through US government approved sales to the Mexican army and police. But, of course, they still trace back to here.

Just another tracking device that will get lost in the mountain of paperwork already required. I'm 100% certain this new rule will never stop one crime.

I'm usually quite skeptical of statistics, but what you just said right there, is something I can believe in. :)

I thought Mexico already had strict gun control laws. What's wrong with this picture? Could it possibly be that when guns are out-lawed, only outlaws will have guns? I find it interesting no one has brought this up yet.

Strict is putting it lightly. Its illegal for Mexican Citizens to own firearms of any kind. [sarcasm] Now we all know that has completely stopped all crime, just like the UK, Australia, Korea, China....[/sarcasm]

I am also 100% certain that if private citizens were allowed to own firearms to defend themselves, we would have a lot fewer drug dealers and murders of Federales. Now, I'm not particularly fond of the sewage that is Mexico, but I'm really sick of them and our own politicians blaming us for their filth and crime.
