I am looking for the best allround big game bullet fot the different calibers. From the posts I have been reading it looks like the choices would be .357- 185gr, .41 Mag - 265gr, .44 Mag - 300gr, and .45 Colt - 330gr, .480 - 355gr. I noticed that the Sectional Density on all these except the .357 run at .220 - .230. The .357 was down at .207. So do you all agree with these bullet weights? I was planning on shooting them at the velocities around 1200 fps give or take a bit. I think the .41 Mag will actually be at closer to 1400 + or - (6.5"barrel). But with the .44 and .45 around 1200 maybe 1300. Lets use that 6" barrel for a baseline. I don't remember what Marshal said that 185 would do out of a pistol. I think Federal loads their 180gr Castcore at 1250fps. So am I on the right track here? I was even thinking of dropping the .44 down to a 280-290 gr and the .45 down to a 300gr. A little easier recoil, but still plenty of penetration right? Let me know.

Pretty much mirrors my hunting loads in three calibers, and the deer and hogs haven't found it to be a fair fight. Sounds like you are on the right track.

FA18CUB,
Got an email a couple of days ago from a friend saying that Woodleigh was going to offer a 450 grain .411 bullet. Might be a bit long for the 405, wonder what velocity you could get from it? I'm not even going to try to attempt that in the Hawk either!!!:D

I might be interested in a .325gr Woodliegh... guess I will stick to the Hornady, Barnes, Hawk crowd.

I only shoot the 45 LC in this crowd- most of the other wiegths seem right. as for the 45 LC 300-325 seem the bullets for it-Buffalo Bores 325 are sweet in both pistol and rifle.
