I am looking for the best allround big game bullet fot the different calibers. From the posts I have been reading it looks like the choices would be .357- 185gr, .41 Mag - 265gr, .44 Mag - 300gr, and .45 Colt - 330gr, .480 - 355gr. I noticed that the Sectional Density on all these except the .357 run at .220 - .230. The .357 was down at .207. So do you all agree with these bullet weights? I was planning on shooting them at the velocities around 1200 fps give or take a bit. I think the .41 Mag will actually be at closer to 1400 + or - (6.5"barrel). But with the .44 and .45 around 1200 maybe 1300. Lets use that 6" barrel for a baseline. I don't remember what Marshal said that 185 would do out of a pistol. I think Federal loads their 180gr Castcore at 1250fps. So am I on the right track here? I was even thinking of dropping the .44 down to a 280-290 gr and the .45 down to a 300gr. A little easier recoil, but still plenty of penetration right? Let me know.
