BOAT TAIL Vs. FLAT BASE

Would it be better? Again, the OP is talking big game , you are talking varminting; different things;
Unless you take your hunting rifles (and loads) varminting ;)

IMO, BC values are more hype than actual benefit. The benefit of a high BC bullet can be overcome by the accuracy differential between boat tails and flat base simply by adjusting point of aim at a known distance. Some rifles (frustratingly) will not shoot boat tail bullets. I don't shoot boat tail bullets because of their higher BC, I shoot them because they work for my application, be it varminting or hunting.

The boat tail on a (for instance) 40 grain Vmax is so small it IMO, doesn't even count in the grand scheme of things.

The "original' Accubond is another example. When you compare it to say a Sierra's boat tail it's almost not a boat tail. Yet when you look at the BC's of the two (say 180 grain .308 caliber) they are "the same". How they perform on the "killing end" and how accurate they are is what counts.

Berger doesn't list the G7 on any of their own classic varmint bullets, and I can't find the BTV tested numbers.
Because it doesn't matter? As long as things go SPLAT on the other end, no matter the distance, it doesn't matter what the BC is . . . . . . right? :D

That's how this varmint hunter thinks anyway.

For varmint you may be right. But when you're pinned down behind rocks and having to wait for air support to bail you out because you can't return effective fire on one guy presenting a clear profile only half a klick away, you just may start to wonder why nobody at the top reviewed all that BC stuff before they put you into that situation.
Half a klick? that's a hair under 550 yards. Easy peasy

You forget, I'm the team sniper . . . . . cover me. ;)

And, air support my butt, I'm calling ARTY.
