I'm not sure if any of you guys are familer with a self defense shooting that occured in a Boston area hospital this past fall, but today it was announced that the individual who fatally shot a patient who was attacking a doctor with a knife will face no criminal charges.

Glad to see that the DA is using some common sense in this one and closing the case.

Guess it's just nice to see a "positive" gun related story in the MA news.

A rarity, to be sure. Was this someone with one of the rare MA concealed weapon permits?

Nick. yeah, he had a "rare" LTC for MA. I also beleive he was an auxilary officer too, so I'm not sure what role if any that played. Also, I do beleive that MA has a bit of an unfair rep when it somes to others views of obtaining a LTC. My friends and I all took our basic pistol safety course together and the 7 of us all got our LTC with no problems. I know some areas are tougher to get one than others, but if you're outside Boston, Lynn, Salem or Worcester, it's not that rare to get one. Now, what kinds of guns we can actually carry with our LTC....thats another story..

I had a friend who lived in a Boston burb thirty years ago who had one then. He said he only got it because his dad was the retired Police Chief in his community. At the time, it was pretty hard to get one, apparently. But I hadn't really thought about it being easier outside of the Boston metro area. Makes sense that the same standards wouldn't necessarily apply.

glad common sense ruled the day.. i can t take my ccw into the nursing home,where my wifes is..its an awful depressing place ..i kinda wish i could .. never know when watching a loved one suffer ,just might make somebody lose it.. grief an depression can affect folks in bad ways ..slim
