I've seen two that did that over the decades. The biggest exploded as I watched it come down and lit up the night with a flash of absolute daylight. The second was not as spectacular but did as well as a flash of close lightning. There was a "boom" associated with the first one. Almost as good a seeing a UFO, which has alluded me.
