Hello from Scotland

As you may know we have some of the strictest gun laws in the world ! Britions have how ever always had a love affair with humble air rifle, most of us have come across them at some point in our youth.
I was introduced at the age of eight, the reason for this was to instill "gun safety" as most of my friends dads had shotguns in there houses, so my dad figured i should know how to use / handling one SAFELY.

I think we can say we have taken air gun manufacture to an art form ! There are 60 million peolpe on this tiny little island of ours so the short range of the humble air rifle has probably saved a few lives !

The modern air rifle IS a excellant tool for controlling pest in and around the farm yard or garden, my current Theoben 12/200 will kill rabbits at 40 -50 yards with little disturbance to other bunnies near by.

Check out www.stalkerrifles.com and have a look at my rapid 12/200 at www.theoben.co.uk

Enjoy !

Englander,

In "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels," the public school weed growers defended their lair (temporarily) with what looked to be a RWS rifle from a gang with a Bren Gun.  They shot a guy in the neck who complained bitterly.  <!--emo&:p--><img src="http://beartoothbullets.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'><!--endemo-->

Your note had the odd result of triggering dread and sorrow, if you will, apart from your enthusiasm for the Theoben.

As fine as they may be, substituting an air rifle for a .22 reflects the closing of open land, the expanding sub-urban monoculture and, of course, the resultant gun "control" and sparks a certain dread, as we're possibly seeing our future here in the US through your note.

Sorry to "go political" on a simple comment about air rifles, but I have a hard time separating the situation from the result.

I agree with CharlieZ... but...

If I could affors a "filter tip moderator" with a 200cc walk around bottle, and that nice thumbhole stock, left hand - of course...

Inaudible with 30ft lbs of energy at the muzzle is a very serious air rifle!

Somebody in Anchorage shot a 400 lb calf moose this summer with a 22 cal air rifle to scare it away from his raspberry bushes.  Instead of shooting it in the rump, he hit it in the ribs and, yep you guessed it, killed the calf.  He received a very large fine (3 grand I think), they took his air rifle and his hunting priviledges.  In Alaska.  Go figure.
