Winchester 94's, or Marlin 94's? You didn't specify.
I have Williams and Lyman reciever sights on all my lever guns. Have had for over 30 years. I like them, they work supurbly for me.
I recently found out that for the new Angle Reject Winchesters, Williams makes a variation that attaches to the top of the reciever using the scope mount holes.
I haven't tried one of those, but I wouldn't hesitate if I owned such a rifle.
My early pre-safety Angle Reject was drilled and tapped for a side mount Lyman sight.
I have also mounted a Williams sight on a Marlin 1894 CS .357. It worked great.
As for using the original front sights, I have had no problems at all.

30wcf:

I have the Williams FP on my 94 in 30-30. I did not change the front sight except for taking off the hood to "brighten" the sight picture. The apeture in the back alomst centers itself on the gold dot of the front post!

Brockman peep sights

I ordered the brockman peep sights for my Marlin 1895 Cowboy because it has the wings to protect the peep sight .
Also, it is machined out of steel barstock.
Marlin sells the Ashley Outdoors peep but I have seen comments from others that the Ashley Outdoors peep is rather high. It was so high that one shooter had to add a lace on cheek pad to his stock with some foam rubber to increase its height. I would caution others to examine how hig the sight will be comparied to the stock cheek piece. Comments?
