My question, if anyone can help, concerns dating by serial number and also serial number designation for Light Twenty, Magnum, etc.

I have an A-5 with a serial number of 01134RN161 with designates made in 1979 and Magnum Twenty. The receiver is plainly marked "Light Twenty" on the upper left hand side. The barrel is marked ** Special Steel 20 ga.- 2 3/4- 28.

I cannot see any way the receiver comes apart, ie. no one could have put together a magnum and a Light Twenty receiver from parts could they? Could this be a mis-stamped receiver? I know barrels can be swapped out, but it seems to me the Light Twenty engraving and the serial number stamp are on the same piece of metal.

Any help is appreciated....

Can't say what you have there, the Browning code for the 20 Magnum is 161, and the code for the Light Twenty is 231.

I suggest a call to Brownings service dept. and find out what they have to say.
