I was at Cabelas today and noticed that they had Buffal Load ammunition for 45-70 marked as safe for various rifles including Sharps replicas. The velocity figures on the box was 2000 FPS for the 405 grain bullet which is almost 700 FPS faster the the Remington amo that I've been using. Have any of you tried this amo and how bad is the recoil. I should mention that the rifle is a Pedersoli hunter that I just bought and shooting the Remington amo off of a rest I was surprised at how little recoil there is.

Best thing to do is call Tim at BB and ask him. He is a good person and spends lots of time in the field useing his products I don't think all Sharps repos are equal and think he may mean the repo made by Sharps. The load you mention is almost unbearable in my H&R and in my Ruger #3 you for sure know you pulled the trigger

Thanks for the reply. I sent Tim a message which he promptly returned saying that the pressure is 40,000 cup but many of his Pedersoli Sharps customers use it with no problems. Recoil with standard loads are nothing in this heavy rifle but after reading your remarks concerning recoil with the heavy loads I think that I'll stay with standard loads.
Thanks again.

If I didn't need to shoot the hot stuff I wouldn't but in big bear country useing a single you want all you can put down the bore. If you have not tried the Hornady LE 45/70 give it a shot. I shoots well in my 45/70's and worked perfect on a black bear and dear. For the big stuff the BB 430gr gets the call
