I am looking a recipe for buffered lead shotshell loads. I had a friend I used to shoot with and he used white flour for buffer material. I would like to use a poly or plastic type of buffer but can't find any info. Want to use 4756 with 11/4 oz of #5 or #6 lead shot in a Federal gold metal case or in a Winchester AA case. I have several loading books but can find no buffered loads in them. I shoot trap, money shoots, meat shoots, games. We shoot anywhere from 27 to 50 yards from the trap house if your 3rd or 4th shot on a missed target it's out there 70 80 yards. My friend that shot the buffered loads did very well but has passed on and I never got any info from him.

We have been asked not to post copyrighted material here, so you'll have to buy the latest Lyman manual. There are two examples of buffered 1-1/4 oz lead loads with buffer and in the Winchester hull.

Buffer raises pressures considerably so don't ever add it to a load that does not call for it and only use plastic buffer.

I have loads for sr- 4756 using the old style aa hulls only, but the only loads i have used with gold medals use 800x and blue dot powders.

Ballistic Products. They have buffer, motor mica, kynar wrap, nickel plated lead shot, you name it for top handloads. I used to use their buffer and it was good stuff.

BP's buffer is the only buffer i use, but i did read an article that claimed precision reloadings buffer was better because of the way it was ground.

I got a box of the "sawdust" from my local TAP Plastics store from where they saw thier various plastics. Screened it through a door screen and it worked really well. Using a dipper to measure volume, and then weighing it against a dipper full of the BPI # 47 product it was virtually identical. The grain is slightly larger with that screening, and it takes a bit more to settle.
