I'm new to this forum and have just purchased a Marlin 1895-GS.  I plan to reload 405 gr. hard cast bullets but am unsure as to what the proper bullet diameter should be for the Ballard-type rifling.  Any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks

No matter what the rifling is I'd bet that if your bullets are sized .459 to .460 you could not go wrong.

With cast, start big and work your way down, as necessary.

If the bullets are a little too big and give trouble chambering, it's not too hard to squeeze them down just a bit.  Too small and you're out of luck!

0.001" to 0.002" over groove diameter is ideal.  I would go with 0.460" and see how that works.
