The front sight on my 44 S&W model 629 (ported barrel) is too sharp in the blade shape that it gets hung up trying to pull it out of a holster. Should I take it to a gunsmith to have it replaced with an angled/colored front sight? Or it is designed specifically for that gun and cannot be changed?

Halfbreed, you just addressed my fear. Taking it to an unknown gunsmith and having him put it in a vise and smack the Hades out of the barrel to remove the front sight pin. I wonder if I could take a fine oil stone and bevel the sharp corner of the sight that gets hung up? I'll wait for more suggestions. Thanks

Another nice idea halfbreed. I've got a hand-held Dremel grinder. I'll bet with light touching on the front of the sight I could file down the sharp edge. Then use the honing stone to remove any small burring. I know where I bought my gun the in-house gunsmith charges to mount and bore sight a rifle scope ($17.00). You can bet he'll charge to remove the sight. Plus, I'm like a lot of gun owners, I don't like anyone messing with my gun.
