Quick question:

Can you install a black and gray stock on a blued 338MX Which originally came with walnut.

If so, which models are compatible?

If so, how much do they cost, or do people often trade?

The stock and forend off any model (other than 1894's and Cowboy's) that use the end cap instead of barrel bands will interchange. All the 1895,444, and XLR models will interchange.

I think I seen a set of lam stocks for trade over at Marlin Owners in their classifieds while back.

Yes they will as George said. I've done it myself.

Keep in mind that, since Marlin fits each buttstock individually to it's own receiver & numbers the stock to keep them together, although most will swap out OK, it's possible to get one that will need a little fitting in order to properly fit YOUR rifle.

So far, knock on wood, I've swapped out hundreds of forends and stocks from the factory and they fit like a glove. I guess its possible though. The only ones I've seen that need fitting is halfing the wings when putting an older stock on the newer rifle.
