I recently ordered some Winchester surplus 7.62 from Midway so I can use the fired brass for reloading. I also ordered a Sierra reloading manual and noticed a warning in the 308 section that some surplus brass has a smaller internal volume and the loads should be reduced by about 2 grs. Would this apply to the Winchester surplus?

Maybe. If you have some factory 308, just weigh the amount of water a fired/unsized case holds, and then compare that to whatever your surplus holds. If there's more than about 10% difference (which ought to be about 5 grains) then follow the load reduction advice.

If you don't have any factory WW brass, just use a working number of 52 grains of water to the case mouth.

Weigh the 7.62 NATO case & a standart sporting .308 winchester case. If the surplus case is heavier then reduce your reload.
