H&R Pardner is a Remington 870 copy and all parts interchange including the barrel with a spacer. It has a better fit and finish than the current production Remington 870 Express and is ironically imported by Remington which bought Marlin whcih bought H&R. For $200.00 it cannot be beat. Has universal owner satisfaction for quality and reliability. My gun store told me they have "sold hundreds" and have never had one returned for any reason. Check it out.

What are some good shotguns that are cheap but also relable?

What kind of gun are you wanting? There are plenty of reliable single shots in the used market, both US and foreign made, that can be had for under $100.
Brazilian, Russian, and Spanish doubles can also be had for reasonable prices (from about $200 in the used market). Pumps can be had very reasonably from Mossberg, Remington, and others.

In general, when I go looking for a shotgun I go in to the used market. Especially for plain Jane versions, you can find some fantastic bargains on almost any kind of scattergun if you are willing to do a bit of searching.

...and the great thing about those used shotguns is that so many of them are in very good condition. Simple, age-old designs and relatively light use mean you can frequently pay 50% less than you might for a brand new gun, yet wind up with one that is very close to new condition.

As your name suggests, you seem to like the Mossberg, which is a very good bargain in a shotgun. Of course, the 870 didn't get to be the best-selling shotgun of all time w/o being a great value. Either of those, particularly in a lightly used gun, will be about the best deal you'll get on a very useful and versatile shotgun.

Another vote for the used gun racks

I agree with these folks and always scan the used gun racks and have had a number of pleasant surprises. It depends what is available and what you prefer. All the best...

I purchased, last year, a Maverick 88 home defense shotgun, I absolutely love it. The particular model that I bought, is the 8 shot model, it's holds 7 in the tube, and of coarse one in the chamber, it's a 20" cylinder bore gun, which pretty well restricts it to close quarters and slugs if you want to hunt, I have killed many a rabbit at about 30 yards with # 5 shot, so it's not too bad, as far as a bird gun, NO, no the greatest choice. The Maverick is made by Mossberg and is an almost exact replica of the 500 the only differences that I can see, the fore grip is different and instead of a tang safety on the top rear of the receiver it has the standard cross bolt safety. They run about 100 dollars cheaper than the 500 and ALL 500 accessories will fit it....I've fired much more expensive guns, and much cheaper guns, all in all I really like this one, and unlike the Remingtons that I've fired The Mac. doesn't have the problem of occasionally dropping shells to the ground from the tube mag upon firing....

I agree with Gil

The used gun racks can provide quite a few bargains. Excellent Remington 870 Wingmasters, Ithaca Model 37s, Mossbergs and others are available at a fraction of the cost of a new one. I do not buy new guns any more. Take care...

There is a regular on other sites," MAX100" , who seems to be an expert on all the Hawk Industries shotguns. I read it in one of his posts as it is generally understood that all parts of the 870 and "Pardner 870" are interchangable with the exception of the barrel but he states otherwise and would believe him as he seems to know way more about the Hawk Shotguns than anyone I have seen. He said the Pardner needed a "spacer" to accept the Remington 870 barrel. :eek:He sells an magizine extension for the Pardner Protector. Here is his detailed review - very interesting and worth reading
