Howdy Folks,I am in the process of designing a bullet for the .476 Linebaugh to be used in either the Freedom Arms guns or the Custom jobs.I want to have two crimp grooves so the bullet can be used in either the short Freedom Arms guns or the longer custom guns by Linebaugh or Bowen,etc..
The locations I have calculated so far are .350 and .420 from the face of the meplat. It should give .050 clearance on the Freedom Arms guns and .040 on the custom guns.
Any input from you folks would be appreciated.
Thankyou all and may God bless,
Rob

Howdy Mike,
I'll have to go back to my notes to be sure but I have been asked to make a design for the .480R that has a crimp groove at .500.Actually,the crimp groove at .420 is getting pretty close and MIGHT suffice for the .480 but to get to the perfect spot exactly for the .480R it is going to require a special crimp groove bullet. As I say, I need to go back and look at my notes, but,I think .500 is about optimum for the .480R.
Thanks and Gods' peace,Rob

Hey Lloyd,
For right now I have to fill the many requests I have recieved for the plain base bullet in about 420 gr. weight. It will be a fairly wide flat nose design with a meplat diameter between the LFN and the WFN.It is a combination that works incredibly well on the .50 Linebaugh. The gas check design will follow right behind this one. Thanks for askin'.
Gods' blessings to you all,Rob

Lloyd,
The .50 cal. mould is for a plain base bullet that casts at 440-450 grs.No one,so far,has asked for a .50 cal. bullet with a gas check. Why do you feel you need a gas check? As long as you are in the 1300-1350fps. range you will not need a gas check.I have one customer who shoots his at 1400fps. with no gas check and no leading.I push all my .44 magnum plain base bullets at 1300 fps. with no leading and rifle like accuracy.Actually, some of those loads have chronographed over 1440 fps in my longer barrels with no leading and no gas check.
I still need input though,on the crimp groove distance.
God bless,Rob

the biggest reason is that I cant afford jacketed bullets for cleaners. I would like one good heavy gascheck bullet not only to try for game but to shoot once in a while to scrape the barrel. Sound pretty lazy dont I! Like you I have had very little leading with plain base bullets at any vel. in the .500 its just that I go out and shoot a couple hundred at a time some days and I feel better when I can shoot a jacketed or gas check bullet though it once in a while its probably all in my head but it seems like it helps tweek the last bit of accuracy out of my guns.
