I have finalized my two hunting rounds for big game with my 340Wby. I will use the Weahterby Factory Ammo 250gr Partition for dangerous game and my hand load using the Sierra 250gr SBT for all other big game.

The Factory ammo I have already posted the accuracy and the results on my first range report with a five shot group 7/10" and moving at 2990.

The next load is the 250gr Sierra SBT moving at 3020fps and group size is .558", using Weatherby Brass, Rem 9 1/2M Primers, with IMR7828

First here is pictures of the brass

Group size was .558"

Velocity average was 3020fps

Nice, I like it. I am thinking about trying the 250gr Sierra in my 338 also. I don't think there is anything light duty about that bullet. I would think it should work well when used with the heavier 338's. Plus, it has a great shape, and should likely carry very well at longer ranges. Need to get some and start experimenting a little. Great shooting Mike. That is some excellent groups. Hard to beat the WBY Factory ammo.

What happened to the Accubond load? Looked like it was really good from your previous posts? Scotty

I'm glad you have taken us on the steps with you from the build to the range. It only makes me want to go ahead with a build of my own. Great shooting!

Thanks guys, I will tweak my loads and even later might work of a 250gr Patition using MRP and see if I can't duplicate the factory load. But, if I had to hunt today not matter what the game, i would use one of the two loads I mentioned.

Nice group, how'd the Partions group for you? The Sierra's are always easy to get good groups from but the Partitions have always been much more difficult to get to group well for me.

250gr Partition

Three shot Group size is .437" moving at 2990fps[/b]

Five shot Group size is .727" moving at 2990fps

I now have three different rounds that are accurate and can be used for specific applications on big game.

1. Accubond 250gr moving at 2913fps

2. Weatherby Factory 250gr Partition moving at 2990fps

3. Sierra SBT 250gr moving at 3020fps

Max Point blank range is 340 yds when zeroed at 270 yds.

To put things in perspective - below is the ballistics for the SBT

Yards Vel. Energy
Muzzle - 3020 - 5063
100 - 2852 - 4515
200 - 2690 - 4017
300 - 2534 - 3565
400 - 2384 - 3155
500 - 2240 - 2785

Good shooting. Any hunting in the works?

Four hunts this fall if it all falls in place - one on black bear Arizona again and three on white tail in Mississippi, Louisiana and Missouri. If I can put the money together, a Black bear hunt in Alaska in the spring of 2011. Also, might get to go on a russian bore hunt in the Pass swamp in Mississippi but not sure yet.
