We have plenty of those here. I've caught several and none have tried to bite. You may be able to lay some cardboard on the ground as a hide and catch it by flipping the cardboard or board, tin or such
On more than one occasion, I have seen rat snakes fairly high in a tree. On time, blue Jay's were dive bombing one that had a huge belly. Obviously it had just pigged out on eggs or baby birds.
