I’m a little confused. I don’t know if the thread that I read over a year ago is still available, but what I remember is that the hundreds of deer that Marshall took with a .357, were taken with a revolver, not a rifle. At handgun velocities he got full penetration from any angle. Although a rifle gives you more oomph, I think that Marshall concluded that the revolver is more than adequate.

You did an excellent job of explaining cast bullets. The only thing that I would add, is that although cast bullets don’t expand at all, a wide, flat meplat or nose on them cut a wound channel larger than diameter, sometimes several times the diameter, depending on impact velocity.

If you can’t find Federal cast-cores locally, both MidwayUSA, and SportsmanGuide have them available online.
