Having reread the OP’s original note, I went out and shot my 340 Weatherby using Weatherby Supreme factory ammo with the 250gr bullet. Now recoil doesn’t bother me but if I had a 30-06 that kicked anywhere like the 340, it would stay in the safe. Recoil when shooting from the bench is obviously more noticeable, and I never recall any recoil when shooting at game. My REM 700 with a synthetic stock, adequate recoil pad and 25” Douglas premium barrel shoots ”lights out” averaging 2.8” groups at 300 yards where I have it zeroed. Nevertheless, it kicks considerably more than my 12 gauge!
