As mentioned in Marshall's book and on posts in this website it is recommended to use Bullseye powder for lapping a .444.  My question is this, I have Reloader 7, why can't I use a reduced , i.e. 5 to 7 grains of it , rather than purchase a pound of Bullseye.  I also have on hand IMR 4831 H4350 Win. 760.  Thanks-Karl

Hi, Karl:
Get a 1/2 lb. can of 700-X, &#3613-14 at Russel's or Wholesale. It's grain for grain with Red Dot most of the time.  The LAST thing you wnat to do is use 5-7 grain of 4831 in a case that size. That's the classic recipe for a detonation! Your other powders aren't much better.

Bye

First of all you need ONLY air gun velocity to fire lap. I would use FIRED cases, unsized(deprime with a nail) and seat the bullet to touch the powder. I think the reason is lessen the chance for detonation. 5 grains Re7 will not give you 400 to 700 feet per second.
