I've been getting inconsistent accuracy from my Ruger #1 45-70 with cast bullets so I slugged the bore and found constrictions at the front sight band, and the sling lug band.
I ordered lapping supplies, and I'm wondering about what powders/loads to use. Will Hodgdon Clays work?

Hi, Leo:
Clays is in the same ballpark as the preferred Red Dot, so it should work fine. 4 grains of RD worked in my .30-06, but your're likely pushing a heavier bullet, so a bit more (5 gr.?) might be needed. IIRC, somebody posted their .45-70 lapping load here a while back. Try the Search button.
