Last two times I shot my rifle I found the first shoot hitting the target too far away from where it is grouping (approximately 10 inches to the right). I understand this could be result of shooting from a cold barrel, but 10 inches is a lot. The other inconvenient I am checking is that I have had to tight up the front action screw.
How can I correct these two problems?

Do a fowling shot before you go hunting! If the action screw keeps coming loose, you have a bedding problem.

E.O. Both are bedding problem indicators. A very good candidate for a glassing job.

Also, do you wipe the oil from the barrel to clean and dry condition prior to shooting?

I always wipe the oil from the barrel before shooting. But after shooting, I always clean it too with a copper brush and nitro solvent. Don’t know if the fouling shot could cause such variation.

Yes, a fouling shot can make a big difference. If the barrel is really really clean, then 4-6 fouling shots may be needed before the groups settle down.

Shoot some groups from a barrel that has not been cleaned, then compare the difference.
