I see the bushing and wedge/screw assembly with the teeth that apparently is the barrel-to-receiver adjustment.

Would someone care to run through the process for me? If it's a gunsmith job, to the gunsmith she goes. But I'd at least like to know how it's done.

I've was led to believe the Winchester Model 12's with this feature were take down models and that was an adjustment for wear on the threads to keep the two parts tight when assembled. I was around fifteen when told this at the gifting of my own Model 12.

The barrel will fit right on to the receiver, no problem. If it is a bit loose, the adjuster can be backed off a notch at a time to tighten things up. It's been a while since I've done it, so I won't try to post a long how-to, but it is pretty self-evident how it works if you study things a bit. It's very simple.
