Last deer season, I filled both of my doe tags. The first I got with a Mosin Nagant rifle, and the second was with a Mauser 98. By the way, the jerky is excellent.

So, you were playing both sides and the deer were in the middle?! :D

Good story. The Russians and Germans tended to capture and refurbish each other's stuff, so no telling how many times those rifles changed hands. I've got old mausers with 2 or 3 country's markings....

I've got a couple of MN's and reloads that MikeG loves - think his shoulder was bruised for a couple of weeks! :p

Have a 27/48 Mauser with a non-'smithing mounted scope that should make a dandy deer stand rifle. Might have to drag it to the blind sometime and try out.

Thanks for the replies

The Mosin Nagant is the 91/30 with open sights shooting an S&B 180 grain soft point. The Mauser 98 is also open sighted using a reload with a 175 grain Sierra PSP at 2520 fps.
