Folks around here are starting to build and put up their new stands and fixing the old ones. The heat is making it really hard, though... it's supposed to be near 100 all week :(

I'm starting to get the bug... can hardly wait :)

Same here. I'm hoping it will be under a hundred this weekend as I need to get to the lease. We'll see.....

Heat index of 105 to 112 the last several days. I just finished another shooting house and that's it for me til it gets cooler about the middle of Sept.

What's even worse, can't shoot at the range for sweat dripping in my eyes. Just miserable down here in Pensacola. ---pruhdlr

I am not as accurate when I'm swatting bugs and blinking sweat out of my eyes, but this is definitely the time to be putting up stands and clearing shooting lanes. Also helps get my fat butt in shape, at least a little. :D

I ran into the local building contractor I use at the tire shop the other day. We were discussing the upcoming deer season and I mentioned that I needed to build me a couple of wooden ground blinds on skids so I could pull them up on a trailer to take home after the end of the season. He said he was in the process of building several of these now and offered to build me two for free if I would come and get them. I guess it was payback for the golf cart I gave him last year. At least I will be warm and dry this year while deer hunting. It was 103 here this week. To darned hot to work on the lease or shoot. I have been staying in the air conditioned shop getting a lot of reloading done.

Shane256, being in Alabama myself (Marion County) I know exactly what you mean about the weather here. What makes it even worse for us is the humidity. Cant do much of anything outside. Work needs done to my hunting land and I surely need to go to the shooting range, but all of it will have to wait til it cools off some. I hope the heat breaks at least a little by the end of the month, cant take much more of this sittin' round the house.

Heh, yeah... you know the humidity is bad when you can see it in the air between you and the buildings across the street (about 200yds) at 2pm in the afternoon at 95+ degrees. Today isn't as bad as that (that was last week) but I can see the humidity haze between me and some trees across the road at about 750yds and it's 91 outside already. I think it was at least 80 this morning at 6:45 when I left for work.

It seems all I can do right now is stay inside and clean my guns. It just seems this heat won't go away. May have to invest in a blind with A/C and a fridge. Just invite the deer in for a cold one...lol. Shane, they call that "air you can wear". About the same here in Calhoun County. Have to wait til sun down to do any yard work. Dove season opens in about three weeks. Just might give it a go.

Went through my "paraphernalia bag" yesterday afternoon... I have a big duffle bag that I keep most of my hunting gear in (throw it behind the truck seat and I'm off!) and I took inventory and washed various bits of clothes stored in it. Also went through my backpack. It looks like the temps are finally dropping a little so hopefully in two or three weeks I'll be able to get to the range again.

The mornings here are getting into the 70's now. Planning on bush hogging around my stand and shooting lanes this week. I will have to work hard, because by 11 am it is 100 degrees. Man, will this heat ever let up. We have had 40 days over 100 this year. I have a feeling I am going to have to install a window AC unit in my deer stand for bow season.

I would love to get to the range, but I am not going to sit in the heat and shoot. It would take forever. Shoot once or twice and let the barrel cool for an hour. Besides as some of you had mentioned the bugs and the sweat in the eyes. No thanks.

Yeah Shane is was decent here this morning, low 70's or so, so hopefully that means we are going down the other side. It has been a miserble couple of months.

The heat over here in Georgia is why I gave up bow hunting a few years ago.

My dad and I are taking 3 days and going up to our property in Michigan, this coming weekend. The plan is to set two ladder stands and clear shooting lanes/trails for those stands and 2 other trees where we'll use climbers. The trail cams have shown 3 different family groups of does, along with one good 8-pointer and 2 smaller bucks. My cousin is letting us use his quad, which will help a lot with getting this work done. Temps are supposed to be lows around 62 and highs around 85, so not too bad. We'll have to use about half a bottle of bug spray every day, though because this property is basically a cedar swamp! :)

Archery for bucks only, is open where our lease is down state. Gun opens next week but still no does till Sept. 15th. Archery opens in the upstate where I live on the 15th. I think I am ready, but I never am. Always takes me a couple hunts no matter what I do before hand to get all the kinks worked out. I wish they made some cool leafy wear.

Well it was 59 degree here this morning. I swear my neck was swollen when I looked in the mirror this morning. I took my mower out to my deer lease this morning and cut the right of way and shooting lanes at my stand. I planted about a half acre of food plot around my stand and set out my corn feeder. Archery season opens next weekend. I have three buck and three doe tags to fill. I had finished my work and was sitting on my four wheeler looking to see what else I needed to do when I noticed something moving in the grass a short distance from me. I walked over to see what it was and found a 4 1/2 foot diamond back rattle snake. When the snake saw me, it coiled up as if ready to strike. My little two inch Taurus 94 22 LR revolver struck first though. One shot through the snakes head ended it's threat. I thought about skinning it for a hat band but then I would have to buy a hat.
