I would pass..

Hi Mr P.
I have not shot this ammo, but 14.95 is not that great of a deal. Try wholesalehunter.com. Ive had good luck on high quality ammo from this site.
I believe I read your previous post about purchasing a savage edge in .30-06. I would not use this golden bear ammo when you start shooting because its probably not even close to what you're going to use when hunting. It's fully jacketed, Steel cased, and loaded to low velocities. You may be thinking "yeah, that's what I'm going for" but it may cause you trouble down the line. My guess is that it won't group very well and may discourage you in your abilities or gun purchase. I would recommend Remington 150s, Winchester 150s, or federal 150s. (im not sure what hornadys run but this is great stuff too.) It may cost you a bit more now, but you can practice with it, and then go right out and hunt with a high degree of confidence.

I am going to advise against this ammo. I don't want to insult your intelligence or anything, but since you are a newbie, I will tell you not to use Full Metal Jacket bullets on hunting game. You want an expanding bullet. If you bought these for practice that would be fine, but in the end you would most likely have to buy more ammo then resight the rifle in when it was time to go hunting. If it were me, I would go buy a box of Remington Core Lokts ( they have 5 dollar per box mail in rebate right now). Start with those, that way when you have it sighted in, you are ready to hunt. I am not plugging remington ammo, but since I know you stated you are in college, I can remember those days, and money is usually tight.

I don't know where you are located, but if you have a Wal-Mart near by you can pick up a box or 2 of Remington 150 Grain Core-Lokts for around 20 a box, go to the Remington website, download the rebate form and do what it says, send it in, and in a couple weeks they will send you a check for 5 dollars per box. Check the remington website because there is a limit.

Oh and you have to buy the ammo by the end of the year, and have to mail to rebate in by the 15 of January 2011

Happy shooting

I wouldn't use this ammunition for several reasons. Noticed its FMJ bullets but they don't specify what the bullet material is made. If its steel like most Wolf ammo is then do not shot in your rifle. Some time ago ran across an article detailing the destructiveness of those bullets in barrels. It ran something like shot five shot group out of the box. Continue doing so every hundred rounds fired comparing groupings. After 600 rounds the accuracy has deterated too double what originally grouping was. Since reading this article I've quite shooting any of the Wolf brand ammo bullets. Still use the steel cases, powder and primer after pulling the bullets and replacing with good old USA made bullets. Actually works very well for hunting.

Another reason is wide fluctuations in bullet weights encountered when I've pulled the factory bullets. USA made bullets that I've weighed have varied only couple tenths of a grain. Not the Wolf which can vary as much as three grains. Definately won't help in the accuracy department.

Two most salient points:

FMJ bullets are for military use or general plinking/practice. Since you will be hunting, you need to practice with what you will use to hunt. Rugerfan gave you perfect advice; buy the Remington Core-lokt ammo, sight in and practice with that. Several million harvested big game animals simply can't be wrong.

Beware of anything that is too inexpensive, as compared to most of the alternatives in that type of product. All bullets should be made of copper and/or lead, or some alloy thereof. These metals are softer than the steel of your barrel, ensuring that if anything gets damaged, it ain't yer gun. ;)

Don't worry, we'll keep you on the straight n' narrow. :p

Stupid rumors that have no basis in fact and are kept circulating on the net. The gun control fans only have too keep these rumors circulating stiring the pot. If one really thinks about the validity of this and how it would affect everything from manufacturer down thru distributor to dealer and ultimately consumer doesn't take much imagination too realize its falsehood. A dealer isn't going too stock something that will deterate on his shelves. Nor will the distributor carry something that may not get sold because of seasonal purchases. Manufacturers don't want products that go bad before consumer usage as its bad for there business. The rumor starts that XYZ ammunition manufacturer is using this type of primer and there out of business over night!! Think about it, its not going too happen unless its mandated by legislation.
