I suppose this maybe should be in "Humor", but here goes! Up at the gun club there's this little flimsy metal gong that our .44's slap around bad! When we moved up to the .44's in the Marlin 1894, we about shot in to pieces. The people up there complained about our .44's! So....Little Hank says, " I'll make one that will stand up!!" If you remember, as I do, The Burnt Island Camp tractor tire used for penetration tests. I should have know better! We were ready go go up to the gun club and Little Hank pull up in his milti collored truck ( not camo, it's like Joseph's cloak of many colors)and called out for my help! It took two of us, grunting, to move this thing over to my 3/4 ton. The thing's bob is 3" thick and 10" wide, hanging with log chains, from a 5' x 5' steel frame!!!!!I put a two wheel dolly in the truck to carry the Bob down to the 50 yard mark on the pistol range. On the way up, I named it Gorilla Gong!
Well....We got set up at the club and started banging away...that dam* bob just sat there as we whacked it with 280 gr OWC's and 240 Hornady XTP's!!!! The club people said for us to take it home because they couldn't move it around! Those desk jockies need to eat more grits. So...we hauled "Gorilla" back to Old Town Hammock and set it out at my little 30 yd set up! Now, we can sit on my 70' deck, drink sweet ice tea, and bang away. The gun club said don't bother about making another gong! So...Gorilla Gong has found a home in Old Town Hammock!
Oh Well......Time to feed the bulldogs!
Best Regards To All, Jmaes

James...Would you say our "Gorilla" was a little over designed? I did shake it up with my 1884 Springfield with a 500 gr hard cast on top of 70 grs of Elephant brand FFg!
You know I had to have Little Hank build something for the boys who think the .44 Mag is a peashooter! Erase...I didn't have to say that! Well.....It's time to feed the bulldogs!

I think I have just the ticket to ring your Gorilla Gong. See ".750 Nitro Express" in the rifle cartridges section of this forum. Time to go feed the crocs.

You know Team...Gorilla has shown something most people take for granted....Knockdown! Or should I say no such thing as "Knockdown!" That thihg weighs a little less than a good size deer and absorbs 100% of the energy of a bullet. And...it does not fall over! Think about it when you see the latest movie flick and the bad guy goes flying away when hit with the good guys handgun or shotgun. Makes you think!

I have made gongs out of old discs. ( Tractor plow discs ) I have some 24" and 16" I just weld them together and weld a chain or two and hang em up. I was banging away at 500 yards with my 7mm and my friend said he would like to go look. We walked out to the gongs and he wanted to test his 44mag out. He shot 6 rounds at about 40 - 50 Yards and they didn't even penetrate. I have the concave side away from us. THEY WORK GREAT and you can find old discs at Tractor Implement dealers or junk yards for abotu 1.00 to 4.00 each.
