Hey guys. I bought my first big gun, in preparation of moving to Alaska. I originally wanted a .300wm, but I found a Tikka m695 in a .338wm. So what I really want to ask is, does anyone know anything about this model of rifle. I have read a lot about Tikka and like what I have read, bit I don't have any first hand experience with them. Thanks for any input. Steve.

I've owned a couple of Tikkas, one a M695 in 25/06 and the other a T3 SS/Lam in .300WSM. Both were accurate and well made rifles. The only comment I'd make on the down side is that both these rifles had more plastic components than I prefer in my rifles. The barrels on both these Tikka models, I believe, are the same ones as Sako use(d) on their 75 & 85 series rifles.

Sweet looking rig. I'd ditch those high rings if I were you, but other than that you should be ready to rock and roll.

That is a nice looking rifle. I agree with Hillestadj, those ring are way too high. They look like something meant for an AR15. I just replaced some old weaver rings that came on a gun that I bought used. I had never used Talley but liked the one-piece base and ring construction. I gotta say, they were easy to install, look great and seem to be really solid. The medium rings work well for a scope with a 40mm or so objective.

Ok after further inspection, the magazine is a mix of metal and a composite, and the trigger guard is indeed composite.

I thought that was likely the case, but it's really no big deal actually. Both Tikkas I owned, as I said before, were great shooters and fine rifles. If you do look for new rings, be sure to check the bolt clearance on the Ocular lens before you go too low. I'd recommend Warne Maximas as a good ring for your Tikka as there should be one made to fit just like the Tikka rings, without the need for a base.

Good Luck! :D

I've owned T3's and sold a bunch of 695's. Never shooting a 695, I think the 695's are of a better quality than the current t3 models. They are slightly heavier, but in your caliber this is not a bad thing. I was always going to buy one if I ever came across a deal on one, but that hasn't happened in the last several years.

I think you will be extremely pleased with this rifle.

I have a 695 deluxe model chambered in 270. It is my primary deer rifle and has been for several years. It is very accurate and reliable. By the way, Warne makes some nice rings that clamp onto the dovetail in the receiver. The front ring has a recoil key that fits into the recess at the front of the receiver to keep everything in place during recoil. I have a set on mine and have been very happy with them. I like the fact that it eliminates the need for bases and gives you a few less screws to worry about rattling lose. I'm sure you will really like that rifle. Congrats.
