question

Just found 720 38/357 bullets. I have never cast any bullets and only load store bought lead bullets. These bullets have no lube in the grease grove. My question is, can I just lube with Alox and not put lube in the grease groove? Never done this before and am looking for answers to a lot of stupid questions. Thanks for any help I can get.

Hello everyone I'm new to cast reloading. I have some 38/357 bullets that a friend cast long time ago. They have a lub groove, that is empty. Can I just lube them with Anlox and not worry about the grease groove, or do I have to fill it up with some type of lube. Any help would be appreciated. Dog

Hey Dog,

Depending on the type of powder you are using, you will most likely have good luck with pan lubing. You can also make your own lube with beeswax and crisco etc. There are many articles. I know for black powder especially, you might want to stick with DGL or SPG lube. I know it's available here:

If you are shooting smokeless, you have more options. Dardas sells his lube, (I buy some of his) and it's pretty reasonably priced also, but it's not great with BP.

Alox works fine on grooved bullets, just let them dry for at least 24 hours. Also don't try to fill the grooves with it as a light tumble is all they will need.
