For those of you who may be members who had accessed some of the troves of information there, it's owner and creator, Chuck Hawks has passed.

I'd been a member there for close to 15yrs and corresponded with Mr Hawks a good bit. He actually copywrited and published about 35 of my articles on his site.

Like all of us, he had his firm opinions and I normally found his firearms and scope reviews to be blunt and honest. He was a big fan of blue steel and finely grained wood stocks and an unabashed fan of Leupold Scopes.

He is what many of us would term old school when it came to rifles and scopes. Fan or not, Chuck Hawks provided huge amounts of useful information and the site is a very worthwhile place for someone new to shooting and firearms to spend time reading and learning.

Rest in Peace.....

Chuck Hawks Passes

For the past two and one half years Chuck has been battling
stage four Pancreatic cancer. Early in the morning of August
23, 2021 he'd had enough and "slipped the surly bond of earth
to touch the face of God." Chuck Hawks was an avid
recreational shooter for over 50 years. In addition, he was a
noted researcher, writer and professional photographer. Many
of his photos are still being sold as picture post cards!

Chuck's shooting career started when he was selected to join
his high school rifle team in his freshman year. He sold guns
and outdoor equipment at the retail level. When in the United
States Air Force he qualified "Expert" with both rifle and
pistol and was invited to try out for the USAF National
Shooting Team. Later, he taught a guns and shooting seminar
for the local community college. As a Benefactor member of the
NRA (USA) and a Complementary member of the National Firearms
Association (Canada) he always supported firearm rights.

Chuck began writing about guns and shooting during his college
days and founded Guns and Shooting Online in 1997. The website
was his passion and he poured tremendous energy into it. He
was intent on providing the latest and most accurate
information to his readers to help them understand and
appreciate the subject he enjoyed so much. This enthusiasm
brought readers from around the world.

In addition to the website Chuck was passionate about Oregon
Duck football, cats, airplanes, motorcycles and fast cars.
Growing up in California instilled in him a love for the
water. He enjoyed going on cruises and sailing. At his request
his ashes will be cast out to sea--"Fair winds and following
seas" forever.

The web site will go on as it will be willed to one of the
shooters that already writes for Guns & Shooting Online.

Thank you for your understanding as we transition.

I enjoyed his writing and have spent plenty of time reading (not always sharing) his opinions. This is a great loss to the shooting community, and I will miss his online presence. So glad to hear that the website will continue in the hands of a capable successor. RIP, Chuck Hawks.

Sorry to hear of Chuck's passing.
I also had read many reviews and articles at his site and agreed with most of the evaluations.
Read some of your articles Tnhunter, and as always valued your opinion.
