Winchester 308 Md70
I was fieldstripping and cleaning gun. After removing bolt, safety switch was moved to fire. Safety lever will not move from fire which enable me to reinstall bolt. Unable to remove firing pin and spring.
How can I FIX this!!!!
The safety will not go into the 'Safe' position unless the firing pin is cocked.
You may be able to remedy this by turning, by hand!, the rear of the bolt, so as to engage the bolt lock pin.
The bolt lock pin must engage the notch in the bolt, in order for the safety to be moved into the 'Safe' or 'Intermediate' position.
Don't quote me on this!
(It's been a while since I had a model 70)
You may want to consult your owner's manual, or Winchester's website, for information. Whatever you do, do not use excessive force on anything.
Hopefully, a Winchester owner will post a solution to your problem.
You'll have to catch the sear on the edge of a workbench or a piece of scrap wood and compress the spring enough to re-engage the safety. Don't get caught doing this on the dining room table
