This depends a lot on your rifle and intended usage and preferences. IE:  is it a light 308 for backpacking? or a heavy 7mm superduper for shooting martians in orbit? or some form of a 22 cal squirrel zapper?

I just bought a new model Leo. VXII in 2X7 for about $260 online. The new VXII has the multicoat 4 lens coatings and the click adjustments from the VXIII series but for about $125 less. It also has an exceptionally long eye relief.

This scope will be fine on my 25-06, my 7-08, or my 338-08. All are lightweight rifles. I feel good about a 2X7 for anything except the squirrel zapper. (you know, those martians in orbit are BIG targets)

I have gotten great service out of Leupold and Burris, and my preference, by a slim margin is leupold.  You can find a varix2 3 x9 x 40 on sale for around $220 u.s., and it is simply a fantastic value.  Burris fullfield 2 comes in at about the same, and they are quite clear and robust.

Make sure you don't go cheap on the rings and bases, the glass is no better than what its mounted on.

Good luck,

Steve

Get a Leupold and don't look back.  In the very unlikely event something goes wrong with it, you'll not have a problem with the company making it right.

Long,
I will also echo the praise for Leupold.  I've had Leupold's on a lot of rifles and never had any problems with them.  I've had them on varmint and target rifles all the way up to heavy duty magnums and all have performed flawlessly.

Having said that, I have only used 3 other brands (Zeiss, Swarvoski, Tasco) and have traded those in for Leupolds.  I'm sure other brands are of sufficient quality but my future purchases will be Leupold.  I am considering a compact Burris for the little 7x57mm Ruger No. 1 RSI though.  I think it would be a really good match for it.

Hello from Scotland

Have a look at the Tasco world class plus range they have 44mm objective lens, they let in tons of light and give excellant field of veiw. I have two of the 4 x 44mm excellant Deer scope, the 6x44mm is even better !

On my .308 M-bolt i have a Tasco Titan 30mm tube 3-12 x 52mm wow ! I love that scope.
