I inherited a Model 94, 32 Winchester Special (pre-64) and I would like some advice on what ammo to purchase.

I'm new to rifles (and deer hunting) so would 30-30 rifle cartridges work or do I need specific 32 Winchester Special ammo?

I've read that the Hornady LeverRevolution provide some extra distance. But would I have to get the 32 Win Special 165 gr (which have proved difficult to find locally) or could I get the 30-30 Win 160 gr?

Most of my deer hunting will be 100 yards or less I imagine.

THANKS!

Welcome to the forum. You need .32 Winchester Special ammo for your rifle. Although .30-30 cartridges will likely feed and chamber, they are not correct for your rifle.

As an owner of a 32 Winchester Special. The 165 Grain FTX is a shooter, haven't used it on game yet, but it made my rifle really accurate.

Also you can buy 170 grain, by Federal, Remington and Winchester.

I would suggest finding the hornady leverevolution. You can usually find the ammo at Midway.com. Cabelas.com , cheaper than dirt or able ammo.

Do not use 30-30 ammo in your rifle. It will chamber, it will fire, but you will not be hitting the target accurately. Ultimately you will damage the riflings inside of the barrel if you would continue to fire 30-30 ammo in it.

Keep looking for the ammo, it is available, just not alot of places carry it.

You should start reading up on handloading... make it your winter project. The .32 Special is worthy of handloading and your can shoot it more for less money.

With Lee Precision equipment you can start handloading for you .32 winnie pretty cheaply, too.
