I just bought a set of 30-30 Herter's dies sight-unseen (eBay).  The price and description seemed right.  Can anyone give a review of Herter's reloading equip?  Does anyone know who actually manufactured their stuff?

While I'm here, does anyone have a cast bullet pet load they'd like to share for the 30 WCF?

Regards.

I'VE USED HERTER DIES OVER THE YEARS WITH SUCCESS. THEY WEREN'T FANCY BUT DID THE JOB JUST FINE.
I HOPE YOU DIDN'Y PAY TOO MUCH 'CAUSE THEY DO NOT HAVE THE VALUE OF RCBS, REDDING, LYMAN, OR SOME SUCH DIES. MOST OF THEIR REGULAR DIES WERE ABOUT &#365.00 + OR -  A SET BRAND NEW.
THEIR TOP END DIES WERE AS GOOD AS SOME OF THE BEST MADE TODAY.
THE PROOF WILL BE IN THE LOADED AMMO; GO FOR IT.
THERE IS A LOT OF 30/30 LEAD BULLET DATA IN THE AA LOADING MANUAL AND OF COURSE THE LYMAN MANUAL.

Bart,
I have used Herter's dies for a long time, and still use them.I did upgrade to RCBS,in the calibers that I do a lot of reloading.
My favorite press,is the Herter's model 3A that I bought back in the "60's.

This particular set turns out to be nothing to brag about.  The sizer is a bit rough and scratches cases somewhat...nothing serious.  The seater die, which is supposed to be a crimper too, doesn't crimp.  In fact it looks like the shell holder is a special component since a Lee shell holder bottoms out on the die before it can make a crimp.  My eBay seller sent me a Lee Factory Crimp Die gratus so I'm happy enough.  I've loaded a few boxes with it and it works ok.  With hindsight I would have just bought a new set.  But this set appears to be incomplete.  And the rough sizer is probably from misuse...I can polish it out some.  There was a price tag on the box of &#364.79.  Originally purchased in the early 70's so I don't know how to compare prices.

Still have Herters Dies for I think about 6 ctgs.  Never had any problem with them.  Like the others say, they are not real pretty however. Paul
