Yeah they're ugly but, looks ain't everything you know. The early ones had some problems but, they are built tough from what I hear. I don't have one, but I would like to have a .45 ACP. Lifetime warraty.

Poorly made guns that, more often than not, will work fine. The ones that don't work fine, Hi Point will fix until they do.
Not very suitable for concealed carry, however. The smallest of them is still fairly big.
They're also the safe variety of cheap. I've never heard of a Hi Point doing an impression of a grenade, but I've heard of other cheap brands doing so.

I owned one years ago. Worked ok, had some jams. Very cheaply made, about as cheap as you can get. They are not built to last a lifetime and people who buy them probably dont expect that.

Not really a concealed weapon, they are meant to be a cheap affordable gun. From browsing the hi point forum, I would go with the .40 and skip the .45 to minimize problems. Seems the .40 is more accurate then the 9mm and .45 too.

I did a thread a few months ago after I bought a hi point (for a few reasons) to compare head on with the Ruger 944 I own, if you want to search for it. If you can only afford < $200 for a new gun, then it is about the only choice in .40 S&W.

Even the Bobcat 21a .22LR ($249?)I compare it to for size, cost $100 more then the Hi-Point .40 ($140).

If you can afford 200 for a Hi Point you can wait and save up another 200 and buy a used glock or simmilar pistol. If you get the Hi Point you will feel as though you just threw away 200 bucks.

I'd agree. I'd been looking at a Hipoint for over a year, because I wanted an auto .45 pistol. I ended up going with an EAA Tanfoglio Witness Match .45 for $450 and haven't looked back. I got an all steel gun with match grade barrel, good steel sights and an adjustable trigger. I still might end up buying a Hi-Point for a truck gun, but I love my Witness and it came with a beautiful case for that price that is FAA approved also.

Deep Woods Survival

There are a few things that bug me. One is people putting down Hi-Point firearms! Unlike most of these little people talking bad about this handgun, I own a Hi-Point JCP 40S&W. I have fired approx 500 rounds through it with out a hang-up or misfire! It's a man's gun! Heavy! Strong! Reliable! Because the magazine springs are a little stiff and strong, I load only seven rounds in them until they weaken up a bit! Now, I don't know what these people whom seem to be intent on putting down my Hi-Point are thinking. Maybe my JCP isn't pretty or small enough for their little play-thing hands. But remember this: When you put down something you really know nothing about there is a problem. Hi-Points are made in America! By Americans! Hi-Points are backed by a life-time guarantee! Hi-Points have been extreme torture tested(see YouTube)beyond any handgun ever! So what's the point of saying something bad about these American Products? Especially if you do not even own one! I have owned many handguns over the years, but my big, heavier JCP 40 will be my survival choice should it need be! Why? Go ahead, drop that foreign piece into the mud and see if it will still fire! I can testify that my Hi-Point will! And if it doesn't? Send it back! Hi-Point will fix it or replace it without question! Try that with that foreign gun that cost you five or six times more money! Are Hi-Point's junk? Mine is far from it! Let's get real people and start backing America, American products, and the American worker! Thank you, and good shooting!
