I have a Remington 700P 26 inch barrel that I have worked up a load for the Sierra Match King 168 grain that will shoot just under a 1/2 inch at 100 and less than 2 inches at 300. I tried working up the Nosler 165 Ballistic tip as I have to use this gun on an Antelope hunt the end of the month and the best I can get at 300 yards is just over a 5 inch group. I spent a lot of time on the 165 and it looks like I am going to have to try something else. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Yes - try the Hornady Interlock SP or the Hornady SST (also the Interlock, but with a plastic tip) bullets and see if you can't improve those groups. They both can be had in 165 gr.

That gun has 1-12 twist, and needs a lighter bullet like the 150 grain Accubond.

Contrary to popular belief, Pronghorns can easily be stalked into pretty reasonable ranges. They don't need to be shot at 10000 yards.

AR2206H - 43.5gr
150GR Nosler Ballistic tip (green if it helps)
federal 210m primers
COAL 2.8

I have used this on many hunting trips. I have hit foxs in the head at roughly 250m and leaves massive big holes in them to boot.

I would also try the 150gr SST or the 150gr Accubond. Both of those two should get close to 3K out of your 26" tube and be more than excellent on antelope. The 150gr Accubond is a tough bullet too, so it would work great for larger game if ever given the chance. Varget seems to work really well in my 308. Scotty

Yes try some of the lead free with a case full of Varget with federal match. Some loaders have used LRM primers to tighten up the groups , just back off on the loads a bit as a standard safety practice .
Start a new load with a foul free bore .

Have you tried any other 165 grain bullets? Just because the Nosler doesn't work well, don't give up on that weight bullet by other makers. If the 168 SMK shoots sub-2 inch groups at 300, then the idea that you need to go lighter is clearly not correct. In fact, many shooters report excellent results with 175 grain bullets in barrels with a 1:12 twist and that's another option for you to try.

My 700 SPS-V is a sub-.75" rifle that plays with 5-shot 1/2" groups at 104 yards. That's with the 168 grain SMK bullet and 42.5 grains of H-4895. If I were looking for a hunting load, I'd buy a selection of 165 grain bullets designed for hunting and use that as my starting load.

You might want to try some of Nosler's 165 grain Accubond bullets for hunting or shooting down range. They have a B.C. of 475 and "sectional density of .248. I shoot them in my rifle and have had very good results on paper, tested them in wet newsprint and they stay together without jacket separation.:)

I use RL-15 at 44 grains of powder and have recorded a hair over 2800-fps!

Your barrel should shoot both the 150 and 165 bullet weights but I believe as some others have mentioned, I think it will shoot 150's a little better. If you're set on the 165's, pick up some Sierra's, they have the GKs in 165 and Pro Hunters in 150's. I don't have a rifle that doesn't group the Pro Hunters either the best or with the best and when I get a new rifle, they're the first bullets I shoot in it.

Give the 175gr Berger VLD - Hunting a try. I was able to take 5 deer from Montague Island this August with great success. I shot most of them in the head but the two I hit in the boiler room didn't make it very far (a bonus when they're in salmon berry bushes and devil's club). I used RL15 and IMR 4064 with Winchester brass and CCI200 LR primers. I'm getting 1" at 300 yards with the M40 and 2.25" at 300 yards with my LTR. The M40 is a full custom and the LTR is a factory barrel, trued action, glass bedded in a McM stock.

I have Sako 75 Varmint which has the heavy barrel. It loves the Sierra 165 grain GK's. Deadly accurate.

Thanks to all who were able to reply I very much appreciate it. As I am kind of in a crunch for time the only bullets I could find in stock at Midway or Cabela's were the 168 Amax and Berger Hunting VLD. I will post how they do.

Hi fellas,
For the past 3 or so years , I have been using a 130gr monolithic solid in my 308 Win. The bullets I use is similar to Barnes' design but is made locally. I get about 3100 fps and have taken from Gemsbuck to Kudu with it numerous times. I enjoy the flat trajectory. I changed to this after I had some bad experiences with Hornady. In those days I used a 180 gr Hornady with the BT. Have any of you guys had any bad experiences with them. Had three bullets break up inside the animal( Impala , which are relatively small) The animals went down , but would hate to think of what would have happened had the bullet hit a big shoulder bone on a Kudu or something like that...
