I found a guy through Gary Reeder custom guns named Jack Huntington in California(530 268-6877). Jack is building .480 REDHAWKS. Not Super Redhawks, but Redhawks. He apparently has been testing .475 etc in Redhawks and says the .480 is no problem.  He will do rebored 6 shots original cylinder or a new five shot cylinder. He says all the math and range tests work on cylinder demensions and pressure etc.  Anyone got any thoughts?

MS,

The latest rumblings I've heard say that a handloaded .480 Ruger are about all the average shooter will be able to handle!!  Get a matching Marlin lever rifle and go slay the great beasts!!

Jack Hunington is a class smith who has been building quality heavy custom guns for a long time.  As the std Redhawk is considered stronger than Blackhawks, I would take his word that a 6 shot rebore is fine.  Do not try to make it into a .475 Linebaugh and you will be happy with the result!  Good shootin'.
