Always armed, always ready

With a 22lr? I'm glad your OK, but even happier you WEREN'T ARMED & shot it out with a kid. I blame the father for poorly supervising the kid, and some blame to you for not letting people discharging firearms nearby aware of your presence. The kid deserves a trip to the woodshed for sure, but so does the Father. An inexpensive Loud whistle weighing less than an ounce and costing less than 5$ is something that is never too heavy or large to ALWAYS have with you, can be heard very far off, people pay more attention to a whistle than a gunshot often. They may be useful for signaling for help, to let others know of your presence and to scare off animals/ poachers/ trespassers. A toot and a wave would have prevented the entire event. One could even stop a crime, be it mugging/ purse snatching/ rape, criminals just don't want ANY attention and loud noises upset ANY animals including humans. As a bonus you won't be arrested for brandishing or blowing a whistle at someone (for just cause), NO special licence or permit is needed, you really don't need to worry about locking it up or it falling into the wrong hands.
