I've been reloading for the 45-70 for 20 plus years. I use the Lyman m die for the neck expansion but everything else is the Redding set up including their crimp die.
The only alteration I've made is I turned down the Lyman m die to lesson the expanation below the flaring part of the case.
I find that I get a much tighter grip on the lead bullets I shoot this way.
I set the Redding crimp die to put the below the crimping groove. Visualize what appears to be a very short bottle neck at the mouth of the case. I have a constriction at the mouth of the case for 1/16th of an inch.
I get a complete burn of my RL-7 and what appears to be consistant velocities.
