I am looking to buy a Remington 700 CDL SF (I love this model, been wanting one for some time now) and either want a 270 WSM or a 257 weatherby mag. I have a 7 mag and a 25-06 already so I dont really "need" either ;), but one is going to end up in the safe. I was wondering what yall thought about the two calibers and the pros and cons of each..thanks.

Of the WSM's the 325 is closest to being dead. The 30 is probably the most popular of the four while the 270 and 7mm at least in my area are neck to neck. If you like paying $40 to $55 per box of twenty cartridges then the WSM's fill the ticket. Frankly if you have a 7mm Rem Mag then your not gaining much with either cartridge.

Well get what you love and want. But I agree with Hail, if you have a .25-06 and a 7 Mag, the .257 and .270WSM gain you little. You should look at a .338 Win, a .300 RUM or a .325 WSM (not dead at all). The .350 Rem Mag and .35 Whelen are both peaches too.

I would vote on a 6.5 something or other. Maybe Creedmore or 6.5 by 55. Its hard to pick a gun for someone else, but I dont think I would get one of those two mentioned. Do you have anything in .224 cal? I really like the sound of that .35 whelen.

P.S. My .325 is alive and kickin.

Get a good varmint rifle, you can get the VSSF or the VLSS TH (the first is a synthetic stock with a fluted heavy profile stainless steel barrel, the second has a laminated thumb hole stock, and a heavy non fluted stainless barrel) A good .204 Ruger, a .22-250 or a .223 would fit nicely below what you have, be good for yotes, and smaller, not to mention punching paper!

You've got a Granny Smith and a Fuji, so you're thinking about a Red Delicious or a Gala? I don't mean to be a Crabapple....but buy an orange, for goodness sake!

Dying or not, I still think the 325WSM is the best of that lot but if my wife hadn't already spent our tax return on an elliptical exercise thingy (grumble, mutter, cuss) I'm pretty sure I'd have to order a 338 Marlin Express. My reasons make no more sense than yours, but that's what makes buying guns great! :)

Well as of right now i own a 700 BDL 7 mag, 700 CDL 25-06, Ruger M77 Hawkeye 35 whelen, and a Remington SPS Varmint .204, so i pretty much have the ones yall recommended covered besides the 325. I know i wont really get much gain out of those two but im only looking to add to what i have. I am wanting the CDL SF, the biggest caliber in that model is the 300 wsm, which doesn't really appeal to me.
