That is an awesome piece of wood! Finding special walnut like that is not easy or cheap any more. I think you made a good choice on the sheen of the finish; not overly bright and shiny, but not dull either. Looks like a great job to me!

Really though, the stock looks great. Where did you run across the blank for it? Or was it just a refinish job?

the wood was from a black walnut that was in our front yard, cut it down about 15 years ago, my dad cut a couple of pieces thick enough for stocks and laid them out to air dry in our shed. I sent one of them to richards microfit and had them cut it down from there add the rosewood caps etc. took along time for it to come back but they did a pretty good job. after alot of sanding and 40 or so coats of tru-oil then rottenstone polishing it looks beautiful (imho) As for the checkering... I wasn't brave enough to attempt it!
