the wood was from a black walnut that was in our front yard, cut it down about 15 years ago, my dad cut a couple of pieces thick enough for stocks and laid them out to air dry in our shed. I sent one of them to richards microfit and had them cut it down from there add the rosewood caps etc. took along time for it to come back but they did a pretty good job. after alot of sanding and 40 or so coats of tru-oil then rottenstone polishing it looks beautiful (imho) As for the checkering... I wasn't brave enough to attempt it!
