my shooting partner has a 22wmr semi auto he had gotten from his father. it seems to shoot fine up until the last 4 to 5 rounds and then it starts to jam that the empty shell is not fully ejected before the next round is chambered.
any suggestions?

Ahhhhhhhh, the Colt Kodiak .22 Magnum. Nice rifles. Had one back in the late 60's. Sounds like the extractor needs replacing. I'd change ammo too. Try some CCI ammo. Cleaner burning. I expect the magnum ammunition you're using now may be leaving a lot of dirty residue.
