I've been looking to get into coyote hunting. I live in delightful Lancaster and i'm wondering;
A. If there is anywhere in LA county to hunt, or if I have to go elsewhere.
B. What rules and laws pertain to hunting here. I'm from Utah, so i'm not sure what I can or can't do (like hunting at night, camo, electronic calls, decoys, bait, etc).
C. How can I find out where I can/can't shoot.

Any info is more than welcome. Thank you.

You've got to read up on the regulations before you head out on your adventure.

California is a freakish place when it comes to firearms and hunting, and one small misstep and you could end up in jail and your firearms confiscated.

Go here to read about hunting rules and regulations: California Department of Fish and Wildlife

I'm in very rural N CA outside of placer ville. We USED to have coyotes everywhere and theyd even sing right under our bedroom windows. In last 3 years they have flat disappeared. Not even roadkills, nothing. The skunks, gophers and voles have literally ravaged my ranch in the meantime. I wonder if the lowly coyote has been hunted to extinction here. The cougars are all gone too and we're up to our a--ses in deer. Has 20+ in driveway recently too and they have stripped all the foliage . I'm no fan of theories but something is bad happening here. If you wanna hunt sometime maybe its time to switch to deer, skunks, gophers and voles and balance the system.

Actually saw a road kill coyote!! . Fiirst in loooong time. Not scientific but compared to 10 RKPM (road kills per mile) squirrels it says alot

I live not too far from you, maybe 40 miles, and I used to hunt in the Lake LA area, along the backside of Edwards. I’m not sure on the regs now for that area. You can’t hunt at night (1/2 hour before sunrise to ½ hour after sunset) or use bait, but you can call them in with e callers or whatever. Some areas in the desert are rimfire only, so you will have to use something like a 22mag or a 17HMR and check the DFG map. I have a 17 and they will drop like a sack of potato’s when hit in the vitals, otherwise it’s one or two steps and a faceplant. How large an area is populated it is depends a lot on how dry it has been in the winter. Not too much in the way of Rabbits or Quail this season, in fact it was a pretty bleak year, since all the rain we got seemed to be too late in the season to help bump up the populations.
