I was looking at the case for the 444 marlin the other day, and suddenly thought about the dimensional similarities between it and the 45 colt.  This is really a dumb question, but would an opened up 444 take a 45 colt slug? and if so, could a win 94 in 45 be rechambered to the longer round?  it would be the nearest thing to a 45-70 in the winchester that we could get... guess I just can't stand the thought of pistol calibers in the Win 94.

Jimmy;

The base of the .444 is about .470, and allowing about .020 for the case around a bullet, there would be NO taper on the case for a .451 bullet.  I believe you have exceeded the demands for extraction with your design.  The .430 bullet is probably about as large as you can go.

Might be able to do it by turning the case necks a little, which sounds like a lot of trouble to me.

Someone with a .444 case laying around, run a .45 expander into it and seat a .45 pistol bullet and let us know.....
