I phoned Lee and found why these don’t use collets. Lee says 1.285” is the shortest factory crimp die which will allow their collets to work. 45acp down to 45 GAP just has a floating sleeve with the taper crimp guide in the end. The carbide ring resizes your crimped round on the way back out. A sleeve with a roll crimp guide for the 45 AR and Cowboy Special rimmed cases will come only when Lee restarts custom orders??

Yep. FCD and CFCD have always been two different product lines. There is also now the CSCD (collet-stye crimp die) for some handgun cartridges that gets around the FCD case length limit by using collets with finger slits that double back on themselves to achieve enough length. But even that doesn't let them get as short as the 45 Auto.
